K&M Continues Caribbean Energy Resilience Project

K&M Expanding Into Mini Grids
K&M Supporting Caribbean Water Util

K&M’s technical services team traveled to St Kitts, Nevis, and St Lucia to continue its ongoing Caribbean energy resilience work. The project is a component of the World Bank’s Caribbean Energy Resilience Program.

The objective of the project is to enhance the resilience of the islands’ power infrastructure to severe weather events exacerbated by climate change. To further this goal Mr. Lenny Golbin, K&M’s managing director of technical services, visited generation, transmission and distribution facilities at each of the islands and identified their vulnerabilities. He participated in meetings with utility management to discuss system design, impacts by the past storms and hurricanes, operation and maintenance practices, emergency preparedness procedures, and insurance coverage.

K&M’s next tasks will be to identify the power systems’ most critical components and estimate the cost of different measures that could be implemented to improve system resilience. K&M will guide the islands’ utilities prioritization of these measures on a cost/benefit basis.

As previously reported, K&M conducted visits to St Vincent and the Grenadines and Antigua and Barbuda in February for the same project.

K&M looks forward to continuing this critical project.
