K&M’s Policy and Regulation practice is working with theInternational Finance Corporation (IFC) to help alleviate the water crisis in Gaborone, Botswana. Led by Nils Janson, managing director of policy and regulation, K&M is supporting the IFC guide the Water Utilities Corporation develop a wastewater reclamation plant on PPP basis. The plant would treat effluent from the Glen Valley wastewater treatment plant.
Serving as the project’s lead transaction advisor, the IFC engaged K&M to carry out technical and financial due diligence, which includes an economic and value for money assessment and a financial and fiscal impact assessment.
Gaborone, Botswana’s capital city, is suffering from a potable water shortage due to population growth and a drought. The Water Utilities Corporation hopes that the new plant will supply 20 percent of the city’s water.
